Orlando
Role: Scenic Charge Artist
Le Moyne College, Boot & Buskin 2024
In this project, I was tasked with executing the scenic painting for the production Orlando, working in collaboration with scenic designer Alex Petersen. As the scenic charge artist I oversaw the translation of the designer’s painted elevations into full-scale scenic structures on stage, capturing the dreamlike tone of the production. The project encompassed roughly 3,000 square feet of scenic surface- including flats, drops, platforms, as well as other scenic elements, requiring a full spectrum of scenic-painting techniques from base coating to detailed atmospheric finishes.
In addition to painting key scenic elements myself, I led student crews through every stage of execution- from surface preparation to final detailing- ensuring consistency and quality across the entire set. We used a variety of techniques including glaze layering, sponging, and dry-brushing processes to achieve dimensional surfaces that held up well under stage lighting.
The completed world provided a cohesive visual environment that upheld the play’s movement through time and identity, grounding its abstract storytelling in vivid and tactile imagery.
