Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus

Role: Puppet designer and builder

Gifford Family Theatre at Le Moyne College 2024

For this staged adaption of Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!, I designed and fabricated a full set of large-scale puppets used throughout the production. The project involved translating Mo Willems’ iconic illustrated characters into three-dimensional, stage ready forms that maintained the playful energy and visual simplicity of the original book while accommodating the needs of live performance.

The process included developing maquettes, creating patterns, assembling and sculpting the foam forms, and upholstering with durable fabrics while using techniques to maintain the puppets’ mobility and flexibility on stage in order to optimize expressive movement.

Following their debut with Gifford Family Theatre at Le Moyne college, the puppets were later used by Playhouse on Park in West Hartford, Connecticut for their own production of the show, extending their onstage life and reaching new audiences.
